Canned tomatoes

Canned tomatoes are a quick and easy alternative to fresh tomatoes that are available all year round.

Canned tomatoes

Canned tomatoes are a lifesaver which no well-stocked pantry should be without! Not only do they allow you to make tomato-based dishes all year round but they require less clean up than fresh tomatoes.

All canned tomatoes are heat-treated and most of the time the skin is removed before being canned. Some producers add flavourings and preservatives so its best to read the label before buying. We suggest opting for organic canned tomatoes with no flavourings or preservatives.

They are great for sauces, soup, pizza topping and many other dishes!

Passata can be used as an alternative in most recipes.

Types of Canned Tomatoes

Chopped Tomatoes – After processing the tomatoes are diced into small cubes and are preserved in tomato juice. They are a good option if you want your dish to have texture. Some contain seasonings like basil or garlic.

They are also perfect for making salsa if you can’t get a hold of fresh tomatoes!

Plum Tomatoes – Most commonly used in Italian cooking. They are super soft and sweet and are almost always skinless. They are super versatile as they can be broken apart by hand, chopped, or blended to make passata!

Cherry Tomatoes – They have a really sweet flavour and can come peeled and unpeeled.
