Harissa
Harissa is a spicy chilli paste that comes from North Africa. It has a fiery taste that you will find a lot on north African cooking.
Harissa is a North African chilli paste which originated in Tunisia. It is wonderfully spicy and has an aromatic taste. It is either a bright red or green colour depending on the chillis used.
The ingredients may vary depending on the country but it usually includes either fresh or dried chillis, garlic and olive oil. It is commonly seasoned with spices like cumin, caraway and coriander.
Harissa is commonly sold in jars or tubes but you can also find powdered harissa. You will be able to find it in most large supermarkets or in middle eastern shops. If you can’t find harissa in shops a good alternative is to make it yourself!
Harissa is a great ingredient as it brings a lot of flavours and its very versatile. you can add it to marinades, sauces and you can even use it as a condiment!
It adds amazing flavour to meats like chicken and lamb. We use harissa in our pulled pork recipe.
Try adding it to couscous or as a coating for chickpeas before roasting! it is also commonly added to things like yogurt and humans for an extra kick!
