Mustard
Mustard is a mildly spicy condiment made from the seeds the the mustard tree.
Mustard is a condiment or a sauce made from the seeds of the mustard plant. There are many different types of mustard that vary in texture colour and ingredients. Mustard seeds can also be sold whole or as a powder.
Types of mustard
- Yellow Mustard – is a smooth bright yellow mustard with a mild taste. It is seasoned with paprika and turmeric which gives it that bright yellow colour. This mustard is really popular in the USA and is quite often referred to as ‘American mustard’. It’s a common burger and hot dog topping.
- Dijon – (or French mustard) is smooth like yellow mustard but it has a more complex taste and it has a more subdued colour.
- Spicy Brown – is made of a mix of white and brown mustard seeds, it coarser than yellow or Dijon and is slightly spicer.
- Whole Grain – is made up of a mix of different kinds of whole mustard seeds. This mustard a coarse texture. The seeds are mixed together with other ingredients like smooth mustard, honey and vinegar.
