Silvercrest Monsieur Cuisine cooking basket is an accessory that fits into the cooking bow. It is a basket with holes in the bottom designed to allow steam to pass through. It is used to steam vegetables, fish and meat.
Steaming is a great cooking method because it helps maintain more vitamins in food as it cooks. Vitamins C and B are water soluble, this means most of the goodness is lost when the cooking water is discarded.
Using the steamer basket
The steamer basket should be used with the steaming automatic program. The steam programme is perfect for gently steaming food automatically.
- Simply add 1litre of water to the cooking bowl
- Add what you want to steam to the basket
- Place the steamer basket with the food inside the cooking bowl, It should not touch the water.
- Close the lid and select the “steam cooking” programme.
- Select how long you want to steam your food and press start!
The speed is fixed at 0 and the temperature at 120 °C. Always check that food is thoroughly cooked before eating. If your food is not thoroughly cooked, you can reset the timer making sure there is never too much or too little water in the cooking bowl
Avoid opening the lid during the cooking process, as hot steam will escape. The lid has vents for the steam to pass through, never cover these vents. If you do need to open the lid make sure to lift the lid first at the rear so that the escaping surge of steam is guided away from you.
When steaming never place the device directly under a wall-mounted cupboard, as steam comes out from the top and could damage the furniture.
Only ever use clean drinking water for producing steam.
Wash with a sponge and hot soapy water, then rinse with clean running water.
The steam basket is also dishwasher friendly!
