Colander
Colanders are a kitchen utensil used to strain and rinse foods.
A Colander is a bowl-shaped kitchen utensil used strain foods after cooking like pasta, or rice or to rinse vegetables and salad leaves. Colanders are usually made of plastic or stainless steel but they can also be made of silicone, ceramic, and enamelware.
Colanders are also called pasta strainers or sieves. Metal colanders can be used to steam vegetables and leafy greens. Fill a large saucepan with water and place a colander on top with what you want to steam inside it and turn on the heat. As the water boils the steam will come through the holes in the colander and steam what you have in it!
They are also great at preventing messes in the kitchen. If you want to reduce a sauce but it’s slattering everywhere simply cover the pot with a metal colander. This will let the vapour to escape but minimise the mess.
