They usually come with handles on the ends to enhance grip. You can even find texture so you can print designs into your pie crusts!

Rolling pins aren’t just used for rolling.

Types of rolling pins

Rolling pins are mostly made of materials like wood, plastic, stainless steel and even marble.
Non-stick plastic rolling pins are good for rolling out things fondant and other sticky icings.
Marble rolling pins are good for puff pastry as they can be kept in the fridge beforehand which keeps the pastry cool while rolling it out.

If you are really in need of a rolling pin and yours has gone walkabout you can use almost any cylindrical devise at your disposal. You could try using; wine bottles, water bottles, drinking glasses, soft drink cans or even tinned food!
