Bircher Muesli is having a moment right now, and rightly so! It’s a super nutritious and easy to make breakfast option!

In a nutshell, bircher muesli (also known as overnight oats) is a cold breakfast dish traditionally made with porridge oats soaked in yogurt, or milk, with fruit like grated apple. You can also use almond milk or fruit juice for a dairy-free option. You simply combine the ingredients and leave the mixture to soak in the fridge for a few hours or overnight.

The recipe was invented by a Swiss doctor and food scientist called Maximilian Bircher-Benner for his patients in the early 1900s.

You can top it off with nuts, seeds, fresh fruit or something sweet like honey, It’s endlessly customisable! Oats are also naturally gluten-free.

Step nr: 1 - Grate apple

Grate apple and add it into a large bowl.

Step nr: 2 - Chop nuts

Chop the nuts. Add roughly half of them to the bowl and reserve the rest for later.

Step nr: 3 - Mix oats

Add the oats, cinnamon, yogurt and the water to the bowl and mix well.

Step nr: 4 - Soak oats

Cover the bowl and leave in the fridge for several hours overnight.
