The piping bag (or pastry bag) is one of the most important allies in pastry: it allows you to decorate cakes and pies quickly and accurately, and, thanks to the numerous shapes of its spouts, it makes it possible to create tufts and decorations in a few moments cream and icing base. It can also be used in savory recipes, for decorations with mashed potatoes, pates and thick sauces.
This tool consists of two main elements: the bag that houses the filling that will fill and decorate cream puffs, biscuits or cakes and the spout that allows you to direct it. Depending on the diameter and shape of the spout, different results can be obtained: from a thin and uniform line to a more elaborate and knurled one; the spout can be made of steel or plastic. In the absence of a pastry bag at home, it is however possible to replace it with a cone of baking paper, to be filled with stuffing, to which cut the spout with scissors to allow the cream to flow out on a regular basis.
